Our Results

Since 1999 the Coco Plum Beach Property Owners’ Association has been working together to improve our community and address common issues. We have been as a unified voice for the neighborhood and advocated for improvements at local government meetings. Of our years of successes we are particularly proud these results:

    • We became a legal party to negotiations between the new City of Marathon and The State of Florida in writing our Comprehensive Plan, protecting our community’s character through land use and development regulations.
    • We were successful in protecting our community’s right to rebuild a lawfully permitted structure after a disaster.
    • We were successful in maintaining Bonefish Bay as a natural area. The city voted not to establish a mooring field.
    • We were successful in fending off changes to zoning regulations which would have threatened our neighborhood character.
    • We were successful in petitioning the city to revise its plan regarding a 12 foot wide bike path through our residential community.
    • Our advocacy resulted in the crosswalk at the traffic signal crossing Overseas Highway.
    • And most recently we refreshed our welcome sign!

We want to give special recognition to our Founder, Lynda Berrigan, who did the hard work to officially set up our organization, champion our successful efforts, communicate with membership and persistently lead our cause for 25 years.
